What hot tub chemicals should you always have? You should have a sanitizer; a sequestering agent to remove heavy metals; and products to adjust the pH and total alkalinity.

Sanitizer:

A sanitizer is used to kill bacteria, viruses and fungi. This can be done through the use of chlorine or bromine. Chlorine is more effective than bromine, but not all hot tubs are compatible with chlorine because it can corrode some materials in the hot tub such as vinyl liners (the material that covers your walls). If you have a non-corrosive liner then you should be able to use chlorine safely in your hot tub without causing any damage.

Chlorine should be added every 2-3 days in order for it to maintain an effective level within your water which will help keep everything clean!

Sequestering Agent:

A sequestering agent is used to remove heavy metals from your water. It can also be used to lower pH and help with scale formation, or it can be used to increase pH. The most common sequestering agents are EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid), HEDP (hydroxyethylidene diphosphonic acid), and TAC (tri-ammonium citrate).

pH Adjuster:

pH is a measure of acidity or alkalinity. It's measured on a scale from 0 to 14, with 7.0 being neutral, and lower numbers indicating increasing acidity (or decreasing alkalinity). The pH scale is logarithmic; this means that each number below 7 represents 10 times more acidic than the next higher one. For example:

  • A pH of 6 is ten times more acidic than a pH of 7
  • A pH of 5 is 100 times more acidic than a pH of 6

Total Alkalinity Adjuster:

Total alkalinity is a measure of the bicarbonate and carbonate in your water. When you have a high total alkalinity, it means that your hot tub has a lot of calcium and magnesium dissolved in it.

The best way to measure total alkalinity is by using an electronic pH meter or test strips. You can also use test kits from local pool stores; just know that these kits aren't as accurate as electronic pH meters or strips when measuring low levels of chemicals like bromine (which we'll talk about next).

To adjust your Sioux Falls hot tub's pH level, add muriatic acid according to directions from the manufacturer on its bottle label (they usually recommend adding 1/2 cup per 100 gallons).

You should always have these chemicals around.

The first thing you should have is a sanitizer. It's important to keep your hot tub water clean and free from bacteria, which can cause health problems for you and your guests. The best way to achieve this is by using a sanitizer that will kill the microbes in your tub while also not harming humans or animals who may come into contact with it.

A sequestering agent is also essential because it removes heavy metals like copper, lead and chrome from the water. These metals can be harmful if they build up in high concentrations over time; this is why you need an agent that will help pull them out before they get too concentrated in your hot tub's system.

The third chemical on our list is pH adjusters (or stabilizers) because they help keep your pH levels balanced throughout each day--and make sure they don't fluctuate too much during use! It's important not just because it keeps everything running smoothly but also because having an unstable pH could lead to skin irritations such as burns or rashes due to higher acidity levels affecting how we absorb minerals through our skin cells while relaxing after work with friends after dinner party guests left early due lack interest compared previous parties where everyone stayed until midnight talking about things unrelated work life balance issues relationships family finances

Conclusion

Don't forget to check the pH of your Sioux Falls hot tub every week, and be sure to add chemicals to maintain it at the proper levels. If you have any questions about what chemicals are best for your hot tub or spa, please contact us at 877.289.2713!
